Exhaust air purification plant for odor elimination in a sewage treatment plant

As part of a pre-planning phase on a sewage treatment plant in Berlin, UV photo oxidation was highlighted as a preferred process and was accordingly commissioned with new plastic piping and newly constructed ICE technology for implementation. The UV photo oxidation uviblox® FOX treats odorous, hydrogen sulfide-containing exhaust air from the inlet and lifting station of the calculation building. This UV photo oxidation replaced a 3-stage biofilter waste plant with a downstream air activated carbon filter as part of the order. This was previously dismantled.

Uviblox® FOX exhaust air treatment system

The pollutant-laden exhaust air extracted from the calculation building is freed of dust particles and aerosols in a pre-filtration. This serves to protect the subsequent stages, and contamination by solid particles or burning-in liquid drops is prevented. The pre-filtered exhaust air then enters the UV photooxidation stage, in which ozone, oxygen, and hydroxide radicals are formed with the help of UV light of defined wavelengths, which causes the decomposition of pollutants and leads to odor elimination.

A downstream residual ozone annihilator stage supports the process catalytically and prevents excess ozone from leaving the UV photooxidation plant. The purified exhaust air is conveyed into the environment via the chimney and meets the required clean gas values.

The UV photooxidation system has been designed regarding corrosion protection, space requirements, and function, specially adapted to the requirements of the customer. This variability is mainly due to the modular and compact design of the UV photooxidation system.
