Cause

At a facility that recycles lead from old car batteries, the batteries are crushed. This usually produces sulphuric acid vapors, which make it necessary to wear respiratory protective equipment, as the atmosphere in the room is extremely aggressive.  In some cases, other batteries, so-called incorrect disposals, are crushed, releasing toxic chlorine gas. In the event of a chlorine gas alarm, no further work may be carried out in the hall until the chlorine gas concentration is below the limit value. WEIL Wasseraufbereitung was commissioned to install a suitable chlorine gas extraction system.

Chlorine gas extraction with droplet separator

A continuous extraction system for the hall air has been installed. The extraction system operates extensively once the chlorine alarm in the hall is triggered. The extraction system was installed close to the battery bunker and at the same time outside the travelling range of the wheel loader. Particular importance was attached to extraction close to the ground in the event of a chlorine alarm. Following the extraction system, the aerosols are separated via a droplet separator.
